Who's Watching The Hen House?

I can’t understand how this administration can pull off what it is doing. Where are our checks and balances? It used to be that our deficit was almost as big as Brazil, which had the biggest deficit. Now ours is bigger! The economists are saying that in twenty years there won’t be enough money to pay for social security and other entitlement programs. These are the areas that the administration identifies as where we need to cut government funding. The Defense funding is what should be cut.
If the US had any reason to invade Iraq, it no longer excises. Hussein is dead, the WMD’s have ‘disappeared’ and Democratic elections have taken place. Hurray! We have won. Let’s go home! We no longer, if ever, have any right to be there.
Our young men and women need to come home. Then we can get that money back into our budget, to be spent to make Democracy a system that works and is wanted by other societies. Then, there will be no need for a huge military or worries about ‘Homeland Security’. Our population will be healthy, our children well educated, and, as citizens of this democracy, we will be protected by the “inalienable” personal rights and freedoms, which are our greatest defense. But we must protect those rights from being eroded away while our homeland is made secure.
Speaking of “Homeland”. Isn’t this term used to elicit images of Kansas, corn fields, and open space? It does to me. The administration , however, uses this expression, to describe the target of “insurgents”. I don’t believe that the Twin Towers ever brought the homeland to mind. I believe that this location was targeted because it was a center of world trade used by foreign as well as US enterprises. Other countries were represented in that horrific death toll.
Do you suppose that the insurgents are now targeting another “world trade center”? One which is called Iraq? Yes, the insurgents are attacking our “homeland” This homeland is made up of all the men and women we have sent there, who have not returned.
